Going to the beach has always been one of my favorite things to do. I will keep it honest, and admit that when the kids were smaller, it was not easy. Layton hated the sand. Ella hated the water. Hadley complained about not getting to enjoy things the way she wanted to because of the littles. Yes, vacation was a lot of work. I almost always needed a vacation from our vacation. This year though; it was so much more relaxing. Ella and Layton loved the beach. J and I were able to sit back and observe without having to micromanage three children. Hadley has gotten old enough that she more or less did her own thing as long as she stayed where we could see her.
It's a strange feeling. She's old enough that she needs her freedom and can have a little bit of it. A part of me misses the time when she needed me to wade out into the water with her, but another part of me is thrilled that I can actually relax on the beach. She's practically grown and is photographed from a distance now instead of up close.
